Théoule sur Mer
Stop Press
The port of Theoule was the first public pleasure boat marina in Europe. On September 11, 2012 it celebrates its 50th anniversary.
The town is spending 2.6m euros to upgrade it and it should be complete by May. The boule lanes near the restaurant Chez Phillipe will also be redone. The port will be out of bounds to the public until it is complete and the boats have been relocated.
If looking for a change of beach scenery, try Théoule - just three stops from Cannes on the St Raphael train, taking about 12 minutes. On leaving the station turn right down the hill - a bit of a walk - before turning left to Le Suveret plage and the marina. You can recognise the turning by the chain partly across the path. Here you find a lovely public beach with safe swimming and lifeguards on duty mid June to mid September. There is an excellent restaurant called Chez Philippe offering à la carte and a 28€ set meal for lunch as well as a bar and snack bar. At weekends groups of people picnic on the beach. And you can always try to join in a game of boules on the beach – no charge. A walk around the marina brings you to another public beach and the private beach - Magellan. There are lots of restaurants and snack bars to choose from as you walk the coast – only 10 minutes max from Chez Philippe to the Marco Polo beach and restaurant in the town’s centre. If you enjoy a stroll carry on round the bay. There are a number of walks including a complete circuit of the headland - L’Aiguille - taking about 1hr 15 mins. In Théoule there’s a choice of water sports and boat hire is also available. If driving there is plenty of parking but it does get very busy in the height of the season.
The tourist office is at 2 av de la Corniche d'or and it has a "web corner" with computers and wifi connexion - and two loos.
