A day trip aboard a superb sailing ship which takes 11 people costs 90€ per person.  The ship leaves from Quai St Pierre in the old port at 10.30am and returns at 6pm. The excursion includes lunch and all drinks - the captain is a former sailing champion, an excellent cook and makes his own bread..

Sailing lessons

 

On Bijou Plage (beach), beyond Port Canto, is a sailing school called Club Nautique de la Croisette. Here adults and children from the age of six can learn to sail - lessons take place, morning or afternoon, Monday to Friday during July and August; in September it's a
fternoons only from Tuesday to Saturday. Each lesson of two and a half hours costs 35 but if you book five lessons the cost is 121€ (just over 24€ per lesson).  There is a one-off licence fee of 47€ for an adult and 24€ for a child.

Towards the other end of Bijou Plage is a small sailing school named Mer et Montagne.  The entrance is very near the bus stop for Palm Beach Casino.  Here Lydie Vielle teaches 6 to 15 year olds in tiny boats called Optimists.  A half day lesson costs 28 but after the third lesson the charge reduces.  A week's course of five half days and a picnic on the Iles des Lérins on the Saturday costs 180€.

For hiring the larger sailing dinghys such as the Moth, the Laser, 420, 470 and the Ponant, Lydie charges from 15€ for half a day.
