Mougins

Mougins is the nearest “perched village” to Cannes. By day it can be reached from Cannes on the 630V, S and VS bus routes but if you have a car it is a romantic place for dinner and there is lots of parking available. “Eat your art out” best sums up this marvellous village which is both a gastronomic and art lovers’ delight. Whether you visit during the day or evening the shops, artists’ studios and galleries are open. Do explore this snail shaped village which dates back to Roman times and where Picasso spent the last years of his life, 1961-73.

Mougins can be proud of its gastronomic heritage and celebrates this in September with its

International Festival of Gastronomy – not to be missed.  In the old village itself there are restaurants to suit all pockets.  Recommended are Resto des Arts (set meals from 22€), a firm favourite with locals and L’Amandier (from 25€ lunch and 29€ dinner) with its gorgeous terrace and great views towards Grasse (see website).  On the edge of the old village is the renowned Le Mas Candille hotel, spa and restaurant. You can dine at the poolside restaurant, La Pergola, or at the Michelin starred Restaurant Candille where lunch menus costs from 54€ and dinner 100€.

Rendezvous des Mougins

is a centrally situated local's place where a two course lunch starts at 14€

In the lower part of Mougins at 10 Avenue St Basile 04 97 21 95 76 is La Ferme de Mougins.  Here you can enjoy the grand buffet (go back as many times as you want) for 28€ with hot main course or 24€ without it - actually there is plenty without the hot course. The bonus is on Tuesdays and Fridays when the prices are reduced to 24€ and 20€, respectively.  Add to this trencherman's meal the setting, the ambience and the attentive staff and it is not surprising how busy the place gets - "but there's plenty of room" says owner Michel Launoy, pictured left.
