GOLF
The beautiful French countryside surrounding Cannes is a golfing paradise. Half a dozen excellent courses are within a half hour drive, with a further six less than an hour away. Cheaper than Portugal and Spain at an average green fee of around £40, they are well maintained and offer a variety of challenges for all golfers. Booking in advance is advised, but simple, as all pro shops have English speaking staff.
| Further inland |
Saint-Endreol Golf Club is a bit further inland and an hour's drive but stunning and difficult. Grasse-Claux-Arnic is a difficult course in the mountains and the favourite of many. Taulane-Claux-Amic is also in the mountains and is closed in winter because it is on the snow line. It is stunning and worth a night or two in their hotel, excellent restaurant and accommodation. |
| A long way |
St Maxime Golf is just above the town and the views are unbelievable but in the height of summer the roads are very busy. Barbaroux Golf Club near Brignoles is described as having a potpourri of styles which range from links like holes with blind shots to US styled target golf holes protected by water. High up with lovely views. |
Editor: I am very grateful to an experienced English golfer, Poppy, for her comments (except the stuff about potpourri, which I found on a site)
