Ventimiglia

Ventimiglia is the first town over the Italian border.  At the Friday market you will find clothes, accessories, household goods and food.
Tip: Be particularly careful not to buy designer fakes as you can be fined very heavily for buying counterfeit goods - double the value of the real thing
Cigarettes and alcohol are considerably cheaper in Italy, by the way.  The train station is bang in the middle of town and just a short walk towards to the beach is where you will find the market.
Tip:  Watch your bag and particularly your credit cards at Ventimiglia station.
Avoid going by car in July and August - bad traffic jams on a Friday.

Stop at Bar Cordon Bleu at Via Roma 19 for a drink or coffee.  The owners are very friendly and the staff efficient - and a large beer costs 4.30€.

Lunch at Hanbury restaurant, Via Hanbury 4, is an experience.  Try an octopus starter or a squid pasta.  An excellent red wine is Nero from Sicily price 20€.  It's very near the station
Another place for lunch and cheaper is Caffe Parigina, 34 Via Cavour, the main road.  Two course meals from 8.50€ to 12.90€.
If you have the time stay in the evening and go to a concert or opera at Teatro Communale.
