Restaurants Further Out

One of the best kept secrets in Cannes is Le Jardin at 15 avenue Isola Bella in the Republique district where business people sit and talk at well spaced tables and eat for a very reasonable price of 17 for a two course lunch during the week.

At the far end of

rue d'Antibes is a bar, restaurant and wine cellar called Cave Croisette. It specialises in top class wines with tapas, starters or main courses.  During the winter, wine tastings take place.

Near Palm Beach is La Brasserie - great value for money.  Open every day for lunch and dinner it offers a three course set meal for 19€ (+5.5% tva, that's VAT to us), the first course is a self-service, generous buffet.  The main courses -fish, meat or vegetarian - are local dishes.  There is a choice of cheese or dessert which, when we were there, offered crème caramel, rum (lots of it) baba, ile flottante (see recipe) and tarte tartin.  Red, white or rose provençal wine is included.

You may sit inside or out, with a view of pétanque players in the square. It is essential to book on a Sunday lunchtime as this is the occasion for French family get-togethers.

Place de l'Etang, 81 Avenue de Lérins.

There is a restaurant called Chicken Burger at 81 Boulevard de la Republique which is strictly Halal

Very popular not only with Arabs, the clientele includes students and local business people

who appreciate home made bread, exotic hamburgers and spicy sauces from North Africa.

On the back road to the motorway Le Routier Sympa has a very pleasant atmosphere which matches its name.  It is decorated in an individual style with wine glasses suspended from the chandelier and a mixture of chairs at the tables.  Staff are friendly and efficient and the place is popular with French business people because it offers value for money.  The lunchtime dish of the day is 10€ and when I was there it was a Salade Niçoise which filled a large plate.  My partner had a really tasty fish platter for 23€.  Wine is from 18€ a bottle.  A large bottle of Pellegrino sparkling water is 4€.
Don't worry about water spraying from the ceiling.  It adds to the fun...and cools you down.
Tip: Smokers can have a cigarette in a room at the back.
549 Chemin des Campelières, Mougins (It's on a road out of Cannes before you reach the motorway)

It's a challenge to find this excellent family run worker's cafe but well worth the effort.

Not far away is Chez Marc.  Open from 7am to 3pm, provides a great value

four course lunch with a carafe of wine for 13.50€.  My starter was egg in aspic followed by a very generous main course of lasagna.

Cheese and fruit followed although I could have had chocolate tart (the French are mad on chocolate). A strong coffee cost me only 1.35€.  The place was packed. In the summer you can eat outside.

The address is Le Cannet Rocheville.  It is to be found on Impasse Campelière, a cul de sac off Chemin des Campelières, signposted at the junction with Avenue du Mont Joli.
