Hotels in Cannes
STOP PRESS: Hotel le Colette, opposite the railway station, has gained a fourth star.
Prices for the modern rooms are from 73-201 euros.

Cannes has 8,000 hotel rooms from the pension to the luxury palace hotels on the Croisette, as well as apartment hotels.  Most hotel chains are represented.

Cannes is reportedly the 10th most expensive place in Europe for hotel rooms. This is according to a German online booking service. Geneva comes out top with London in third place at an average 205 euros for a double room. Cannes comes in at an average of 156 euros but local tourist guru thinks this is "a little high".  It could, however, be due to the fact that 58% of Cannes' hotel rooms are in four and five star hotels.

There are also nearly 2000 hotel rooms in two and three star establishments in town which charge much less than the average reported in this survey.

Cannes' luxury hotels are as emblematic of the town as its film festival. Last year (2011) most of the hotels on the Croisette were updated. The Grand Hotel re-opened with newly painted bedrooms and new kitchens.  The quirky 3.14 - boutique hotel for the ultra trendy - spent 500,000 euros on behind-the-scene improvements to plumbing, air conditioning, new kitchens plus a spruced up beach restaurant. The Martinez lashed out five million euros to transform 30 bedrooms and suites. The Gray d'Albion hotel completed its refurbishment at a cost of 6m euros. While over at the J W Mariott Hotel (formerly the Hilton/ Palais Stephanie) 40m euros was spent on a whole new modern look for the hotel and its restaurant, La Scena. Topping them all, the Majestic hotel spent two years and 72m euros building a new wing, creating a gastronomic restaurant, Petite maison, and a spa as well as installing outdoor lighting. The rest of the hotel has been refurbished as well as its brasserie, le Fouquet's.

Latest addition to the luxury hotels is Five Hotel  (see right) near the Palais  see website
