Sea fishing in Cannes can be anything from catching fish with a simple rod and reel with baited hooks from the rocks or the beach to taking part in a group trip on a luxury cruiser. In the marina some very wary mullet can be caught with simple light course tackle and hooks baited with bread but patience and a little bit of luck is needed!

Cannes La Bocca

Hire your rod at Côte d'Azur Pêche, 5 Avenue Monte Carlo, Cannes La Bocca. Take a number two bus from the bus station, direction Les Bastides, and get off at Quatres Coins (four corners). Walk back about 50 yards and you will find the shop. Rod hire is from 4€ -15€ a day. Tel: 04 93 90 37 38.

Golfe Juan

Golfe Juan, on the coast east of

Cannes - travel by bus or train - is a centre for fishing. At Aqua Peche on the seafront you can buy a rod for less than 20€. Live bait also sold.

boat hire is to be found at Alpha Plaisance, 37 Avenue des frères Roustan, the promenade. If you already hold a boat driving licence you can hire a boat. No licence is required for sea fishing, by the way. A day, 9am to 5pm, costs 160€ for a five person boat, 260€ for six people.

For the serious

The Mediterranean Fishing Centre at 79 avenue des freres Roustan in Golfe Juan offers a day's fishing at 320€ per person (on the basis of 3 or 4 fishermen on board). The day is spent on the King Fish V, a 55ft trawler, in
