Asian Restaurants - Indian, Chinese, Thai and Japanese Cuisine in Cannes

Bangkok restaurant specialises in Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese food and can be found on the rue Latour Maubourg, which runs off the Croisette at the side of the Hotel Martinez to the rue d’Antibes.  It is beautifully decorated and offers a range of delicious set meals for lunch and dinner as well as a la carte. Bangkok is highly recommended and very popular.  Asian food tip: the nems (spring rolls) come with lettuce and sprigs of mint in the Vietnamese style so just put some mint leaves on a lettuce leaf and roll the nems in it before dunking in the sauce and eating.  Fabulous.  Price guide - set meals from 17.00 and wines start at 13.50.

Délices Yang is a very popular Asian restaurant and take-away (Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese). It offers anything from a snack to a blowout day and night at very reasonable prices.

Main dishes are from 4.80 to 6.80€, puddings 3€, eastern beers 3€ and a full bottle of wine only 6.20€.

Tip: For a minimum order of 15€ after 6.30pm they will deliver to where you are staying.

Thien Phu is an oasis in a part of Cannes not well blessed with eating places - east end between Basse Californie and Palm Beach.  It is popular with locals, also as a takeaway.

Generous portions of tasty Thai and Vietnamese dishes are served at lunch and dinner. The proprieter, whose

name is Hi, provides a complimentary glass of kir before the meal and a sake afterwards.  Try the crab salad starter (7€) and the fish stew (11€) to follow - with a pichet (up to a litre) of wine.

The restaurant is situated next to the Alexandre Theatre lll at 23 Boulevard Alexandre lll. Tel: 04 93 69 57 36.

The Indian restaurant in Cannes called the Maharajah at 29 Jean Jaures near the Gambetta market, is not consistent in its standards. But when it is good, it's great - so you takes your chances.

Try the Achiana in Antibes at 9 avenue du 11 Novembre near the port, tel 04 83 34 09 57.  Maybe a reader can point me to an Indian restaurant where you can get a chicken Phal (see recipe), a curry far too hot for the French taste.

Maybe it's the Delhi Belhi in Nice, 22 rue de Barillerie in the old town, tel 04 93 92 51 87 which has had a Gault Millau rating for the past three years. I couldn't resist this picture on their website.
